Group Project
The aim of the group project is allow any mix of students within a school or class to explore one of the Science in the Peak themes; Physics and Astronomy, Ecology and the Environment, Creativity in Science.
This open project can take any form chosen by either the teacher or students. Examples of such projects, which highlights one of the themes key area of interest include but are not limited to:
- Running a class investigation and displaying the findings to the school
- Hosting a class or school debate
- Delivering an focussed assembly
- Developing and running a drama session
- Producing a film which could be posted onto the schools website
- Designing an awareness or promotional poster
In order fairly assess each teams overall project and for a chance of winning the prize for the most innovative, interesting and exciting group project, all teams are requested to submit a summary of their project in the style and format of a Newspaper front cover sheet.
Entries can be submitted to the DEBP STEM team in either electronic or hardcopy format.
The closing date for the group project prize draw will be the 18th September 2009.
The winning team will receive High Street Vouchers to the value of £100. The 2nd place team will receive High Street Vouchers to the value of £50. The 3rd place team will receive High Street Vouchers to the value of £25.
The wining teams will be notified by the DEBP STEM team no later than 30th September 2009
Individual Student Project
The aim of the Individual Student Project is to allow an individual to investigate a particular area in interest that is based upon one of the Science on the Peak main themes: Physics and Astronomy, Ecology and the Environment, Creativity in Science.
This project will utilise the popular and proven format of the British Science Association Bronze CREST award. The CREST project provides a pre-formatted project log book for students to record all aspects of their investigation as the project progresses and allows for personal choice with regards to the area of interest being investigated.
The CREST format provides, what many teacher consider to be a convenient method of running an investigative project over the course of 10 hours, whether in or out of core school time.
For a chance to win the Individual Student Project prize of a Nintendo Wii, the completed and signed CREST log books are to be sent to the DEBP STEM team by the 18th September 2009.
The wining student will be notified by the DEBP STEM team no later than 30th September 2009.
Any student who wishes to register for a separate accredited British Science Association Bronze CREST award can do so by contacting their teacher who will then notify the DEBP STEM team, who will administer all CREST registrations and awards.
